Website Update

WEBSITE: neveball.com
Upon reflection of my most recent website I decided to redesign it using a different platform as I was unhappy with the limited functions available and no longer liked the colours/type used. Therefore I looked at using Persona which is an extension of Cargo Collective as it allows you to add your existing domain and publish your site for less than publishing through readymag.

Therefore within the new design a more simplistic, minimal approach has been taken as I wanted a cleaner look to the website allowing the work to be the focus. Furthermore the use of grey and red within the old website didn't match the black used within my Instagram feed creating a slight disconnect between the two. Although the black background of the images created a link this created a blocky website, therefore changing the background to black within the new website creates a more seamless and succinct transition from web-Instagram. All the informaiton appears in the same place on each page (left align) allowign for ease of navigation as the viewer always knows where to look.

The main aim of my website was to showcase work in a simple but effective manner by adding consistency through design as a lot of my work is brief specific so doesn't have an overarching aesthetic. Black was chosen for the background colour as this allows may on my projects to stand out more than white, as when white is put on white the definition of the outcome can get lost.

Type:
The typeface Sabon has been chosen as it creates a good contrast against the black background due to the different stroke widths within and the serifs. The typeface is traditional but has modern elements that are slightly more unusual. I felt these subtle characteristics within the type fit my website and branding well as it represents where I am currently within my practice as I still enjoy 'traditional' graphic design (editorial, packaging and branding) however I am looking to explore other options such as set design, prop design, stage design etc. Although this is a subtle reference I feel it works for now as I want to present myself as a freelance graphic designer primarily whilst I explore other areas outside until my portfolio becomes more focused as it currently is routed in more traditional projects.
