Abstract- Paula Scher

This documentary featured Paula Scher a graphic designer at Pentagram with a passion for typography. The most interesting aspect of this documentary for me was the identity she created for The Public in New York due to the bold use of typography and the ability to create an identity that was instantly recognisable even without a logo (see figure 1-2). Another identity that was featured within the documentary that I found interesting was Pier 55 as they had taken sections from the architecture and map of the Pier to create aspects of the letterforms and numbers. I found this particularly inspiring as I had never though to look at the architecture or site of place in this way.  It was also intersting to discover that Scher paints maps (see figure 3) using different pieces of information such as postcodes or counties in her spare time as when she started designing she would use her hands and physically produce work whereas now most things are digital. Additionally I also found it intersting to listen to how she works and that she can't sit and create at her desk, she need to be on the move as this is where she gets her inspiration from. Overall the most interesting part of this documentary was discovering how Scher uses typography and its importance in making an impact on the audience.
