The Design Museum- Barcelona

Barcelona was incredibly refreshing and inspiring due to seeing different design studios and experiencing a new culture. The Design museum was particularly interesting as they had an exhibition about how graphic design has developed over time. I found this particularly inspiring to see how styles have changed and discovered aspects from older work that I would like to experiment with within my work (see figure 1 and 2) such as colour and typography. Although the exhibition was quite small it was very insightful due to the varied work within the exhibition as it allowed me to see how different aspects of design can work well together such as the inclusion of cut outs and illustrations which are things I wouldn't normally experiment with (see figure 3 and 4). Overall this visit was very helpful to see how I can reference older styles in a more modern way within my own work through the use of typography, layout and colour. I also plan to incorporate more of my own paper folding/cutting skills into my work in a similar way to figure 3 as I previously felt the two didn't correlate.
